Barcelona lives and breathes sport. The city has hosted some of the most iconic moments in sporting history—from the unforgettable 1992 Olympic Games to World Championships across a wide array of disciplines. It stands today as a global capital of sport—not only as the venue for temporary international events, but also as the home of world-class competitions held annually, some for over a century.
Within this framework, leaders of the city’s major international sporting events and institutional representatives came together to share insights and address common challenges at the first edition of BCN Global Sports, a discussion forum organized by CSIO Barcelona and the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona.

“We are facing significant challenges. The world of sports is evolving rapidly, with new players—especially from the Middle East—entering the field, and cities eager to replicate the Barcelona model. Institutions and event organizers must work together to continue improving and promoting the city,” concluded the speakers after a day that highlighted Barcelona’s organizational potential, the multidisciplinary strength of its top-tier sporting events (tennis, equestrian, motorsports, Formula 1, athletics, and sailing), the importance of professionalization, and the need for unity in reinforcing Barcelona’s sports model.
The forum featured the participation of Xavier Pujol, CEO of the Conde de Godó Tennis Trophy and First Vice President of RCT Barcelona 1899; Cristian Llorens, Director of Events at RPM Sports, organizers of the Barcelona Marathon and Half Marathon; Montse Sogues, Communications Director of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya; Marc Saurina, Head of Global Commercial Partnerships at Dorna Sports, organizers of the MotoGP World Championship; Jordi Puig, Real Club Náutico de Barcelona president, organizers of the Conde de Godó Sailing Trophy; and Daniel Garcia Giró, CSIO Barcelona director and BCN Global Sports host.
On the institutional side, participants included Alejandro Merino, Director of External Relations and Protocol at the National Sports Council (CSD), and Conrad Felip, Coordinator of the Sports and Physical Activity Department of the Barcelona Provincial Council.
